Discovered via WideOpenMoto this Kawasaki KZ400 has had the off-road treatment applied front to back, the chunky off road tires, stripped back frame and nicely tidied up rear end give the bike an appealing, post-apolocalypic feel with the distressed tank and engine rounding out the theme quite nicely.
I love a good documentary, especially when it’s about motorcycles and it was made by friends. This fantastic 20 minute film follows the story of Paul Rodden and Larry Murray, two slightly older off-road motorcyclists who regularly go out on the trails with much younger men, and literally leave them in the dust.
Pikes Peak represents the ragged edge of motorsport, guys slide their cars around gravel corners at 100+mph with nothing but a cliff on one side and a wall on the other.
It seems a shame that this clip is only 0:48 seconds long, seeing people skiing down a mountain being pulled by a Porsche 550 Spyder, Porsche 356, assorted Triumphs and other motorcycles is genuinely incredible.
It amazes me that some people are this cool without even trying. After spending some time looking over the photograph above I’ve hypothesised that that’s a 1940’s or 1950’s JAP based flat tracker, I’ve also decided that I want one.
The scientists of the world have failed us when it comes to inventing the hoverboards we were convinced would exist by 2012, this is about as close as any of us is likely to get to being Marty McFly. But maybe that’s a good thing.
I have a deep love and long standing respect for BMW motorcycles. I’ve never actually owned one, but I’ll get around to picking one up someday. In the meantime, I’ll make do with ogling other people’s Beemers.

The classic World War II Jeep is a car that I’ve always wanted, perhaps not as a daily driver but certainly as a weekend warrior. Having an original WWII vintage, non-modified version with the military paint-markings still in place like the jeep here would be a major bonus and the temptation to smoke a cigar and shout at people whilst driving around in it would be almost too much to resist.
Sounding for all the world like something the 3 hosts of Top Gear might dream up for an episode in Lapland this photograph from 1908 shows an iceboat racing a motorcycle across a frozen lake in Canada.
