The Wunderlich S1000 RR “MadMax” is a totally reworked and apocalypse-ified BMW S1000 RR designed by Nicholas Petit and built by world renowned BMW experts, Wunderlich. The build was commissioned by tire manufacturer Continental to show off their new meaty off road tire, the Continental TKC 80.
In 1950, 2 years after his more-famous-than-Jesus swim-suit speed run at Bonneville, Rollie Free returned to the salt to reclaim his title. This time he arrived with a fully enclosed Vincent Black Lightning, a first attempt at streamlining by Rollie and on day 2 he made his first full-speed run.
They say good things come in threes, so with that in mind, here’s our third BMW motorcycle this week. Dubbed the ‘Lucky 13’ this BMW R100/7 is the latest build out of the garages of Blitz Motorcycles, a France based custom motorcycle garage with a penchant for cafe racers, scramblers and very unusual paint jobs.
This bike started life as a 1986 Honda VF1000R although it would have been hard to guess given the modifications to the bike. The lower fairings have been removed and the remaining body work has been sanded back and given and eye catching distressed paint job.
It isn’t often that I discover a Land Rover variant I’ve never seen before, so when I stumbled across a picture of this, the Bell Aurens Longnose I thought I was looking at a long forgotten Land Rover concept car, or perhaps an old Defender modified by a wealthy oil sheik.

The Husqvarna Baja Concept was unveiled at the New York International Motorcycle Show last week, in some respects its the next step in development for their Moab concept, although the Baja does seem a little more suited to rolling around in the mud.

The 70’s were a gold-era in the production of off-road motorcycles, it may just be my personal preference but bikes like this just look so much better than the plastic and graphics covered dirt bikes of today.
It’s a little hard to imagine people taking their Harley-Davidson hardtails out for weekends of mountain climbing and river fording but that’s exactly what they did in the 1950’s.
