Dakar 2012 – Highlights
I don’t know if you had any plans this fine Sunday but with heat records being broken willy nilly right around the globe, I though it might be nice to spend the day indoors near the fridge with 7 hours and 21 minutes of 2012 Dakar footage.
Vintage Baja
This footage is from the early ’80s and despite the fact that there’s no sound, the images tell a tale of dust, dirt, gasoline and sunburn. In other words, a perfect weekend.

It’s great to stumble across old movies like this, the title of the film is “Mountain Legend” and it’s an old Castol film covering the 1965 Targa Florio.

Bomber Boys
WWII documentaries always fascinate me, this film by Ewan MacGregor is a brilliant insight into lives of the Lancaster crews of the war. There is some special significance here for me because my Great Uncle Alf was a bombardier or bomb aimer on the Lancaster during the war, he was one of the lucky ones who survived.
Connery Cool
Okay so there’s no motor vehicle in this photograph. It’s just unadulterated cool and I wanted to share it.

Possibly the most iconic rough-round-the-edges actor of the mid-20th century, he went on to make the Schott Perfecto jacket an icon in it’s own right.
Fifty Years of Kicks – Motorcycle Documentary
I love a good documentary, especially when it’s about motorcycles and it was made by friends. This fantastic 20 minute film follows the story of Paul Rodden and Larry Murray, two slightly older off-road motorcyclists who regularly go out on the trails with much younger men, and literally leave them in the dust.
Fiona Volpe – Thunderball
Thunderball is one of the better Bond films, the financials agree with me on this as well. It earned $141 million at the box office and if you adjust for inflation, it’s still the highest grossing Bond film ever released.
