Swain Boots are made by Rodrigo Luis Brito Mendes, a third generation bootmaker based in Lisbon, Portugal. Rodrigo spent most of his adulthood working in IT and didn’t return to the roots laid down by his paternal grandfather in 1918 until recently, when he visited the old workshop that had been left untouched since his grandfather’s passing.
All the old tools and sewing machines where still there, with some old versions of the original boots – and Rodrigo was struck with an idea. He decided to revive the company formed by his father’s father, and so he cleared out the workshop and began to prepare for a limited production run.
