The listing for this MAG 1000cc IOE engine helpfully explains that it’s suitable for use in a light aeroplane, although you’d have to be brave to trust your life to an engine built in 1923.
MAG was a Swiss motorcycle manufacturer known for providing engine to other European manufacturers, the company name is an acronym of Motosacoche Acacias Genève. The early years were very successful for MAG, especially on the race tracks of the continent – the first Bol d’Or 24-hour motorcycle endurance race was won by a MAG on the outskirts of Paris in 1922.
This engine is being sold as is, and it’s believed to be complete internally. It’s estimated to be worth between £4,000 and £5,000 and it’d make a fantastic starting point for a new motorcycle developed in the spirit of the originals.
