Small scale custom workshops are the lifeblood of the underground motorcycle community, and not just bike builders either, specialist workshops like Old School Helmets inject boatloads of retro class into their helmets and we love nothing more than to bring much needed attention to the “little guy” as opposed to the big name manufacturers.
The distressed helmets pictured above and below are all handmade by Josh Scott and Steve Havens out of their Columbus, Ohio workshop. They specialise in Biltwell, Bell 500 and Fulmer open-face helmets and offer the safer DOT approved lids, not all custom helmet shops do this. Helmets can be made to order or ordered right off the shelf, prices start at $199 USD, that’s pretty damned affordable considering the helmets cost over $100 before painting.
