1925 DOUGLAS 2¾HP

This 1925 Douglas 2¾ HP is the sort of vintage motorcycle you buy both for fun and as a bit of an investment – its estimated value of £6,000 to £8,000 doesn’t make it a cheap acquisition, but it certainly isn’t prohibitively expensive and so long as you take care of it, it’ll appreciate handsomely whilst you spend a few summers taking it up twisty B-roads. I don’t know about you, but that sounds far better than trusting some of my savings to a mutual fund run by a team of sociopathic narcissists in pinstriped suits with bleached teeth and slicked back hair.

Based in Bristol, Douglas built motorcycles from 1907 till 1957 and became famous for a time in the 1910s through to the 30s for producing some of the most successful racing motorcycles in the world. Douglas machines took 4 wins at the Isle of Man TT as well as a slew of podium places, they were also exceedingly popular in the world of dirt track racing due to their narrow design and competitive power-to-weight ratio.

This 1925 Douglas 2¾ HP represents an immaculate example of the famous opposing twin engined motorcycle, it’s coming up for auction on the 13th of November 2013 with Bonhams – you can click here to visit its auction listing page.
