The American Optical Flight Goggle #58, or AO sunglasses as they’re more commonly known, were the first sunglasses to land on the moon. They’ve been standard issue to US Pilots and Astronauts since 1958, they’ve been worn by Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, Jim Lovell, Chuck Yeager with the pair worn by Armstrong during Apollo 11 now on permanent display at the Smithsonian.
Surprisingly, they only cost ~$40 a pair and can be picked up on Amazon in a variety of lens and frame colours – all of them are original US Airforce and NASA spec units that’ll make a nice change from those ubiquitous RayBans.
