This fantastic retro documentary about motorcycle racing is presented by “Fast” Freddie Spencer, it was filmed and released in 1985 so the era of 500cc 2-stoke super bikes was in full swing.
In 1928 a man named Ernst Henne bought a BMW R37, he then took it apart and thew most of the bits away. Once he had the bike back to its bare essentials he set about building one of the most successful record breaking motorcycles ever built.
This Super-8 clip from 1949 shows the Daytona Beach Races. This was back in the days before a dedicated road circuit so competitors used to race down the beach, then around onto the parallel road, then left back onto the beach forming a large oval track with both sand and asphalt sections.
