There’s something about a steam train hammering along the rails at full chat that evokes a sense of awe that you just don’t get with diesel or electric trains. The smell of the coal, the sound of the pistons and the wheels on the tracks and the sight of something made of steel and brass punching through the air at speeds in excess of 60mph is an incredible sight to behold.
The above image is one of the best train photographs I’ve ever seen, I’ve had it on file for some time but have never been able to track down the original photographer, the train or the location – so if you can answer any of these questions please let us all know on Facebook here or Twitter here. In the meantime, you can click the image above to see the desktop wallpaper-sized 1920×1080 pixel image.
