The Kaufmann Mercantile Camping selection for 2014 is an expansive list spread out over 3 pages, each of the curated items is individually selected by the team who place significant emphasis on handmade, high quality goods that are designed to last decades rather than months.
Rather than try to feature everything in the camping section (which was tempting) we picked out 4 items that are all vital in their own right that also give some indication of the length and breadth of the inventory over on Kaufmann Mercantile / Camping. In conduction with KM we’re going to give these 4 items away, to 4 different people over the coming week – all you have to do to enter is type in your email below and hit the “Sign Me Up” button, which will subscribe you to the official Kaufmann Mercantile email list (I’m personally subscribed, it’s excellent).

This lightweight camping stove can be folded down into a small semi-circle and tucked into the side pocket of a rucksack whilst not in use. When assembled you simply load wood or fuel in the centre, set it alight and then sit your pan, pot or kettle on top.
This American-made first aid kit contains everything you’ll need for minor disasters out in the wilderness, it measures just 9.5″ long, 6.5″ wide and 2.5″ deep – meaning it’ll fit nicely into even the smallest of backpacks.
A good hatchet can be used for everything from felling trees and building accommodation to chopping firewood and fending off slightly too friendly bears – this one by Estwing is forged from a single solid piece of steel and has a bound then lacquered leather grip. It comes with a tooled leather safety sheath and is made in the USA.
This is possibly the item most often overlooked on camping trips – you can’t chop food on dirt and it destroys blades to cut on stone or steel. Made from ultra-thin (3/16 of an inch) wood fibre the Campsite Cutting Board can be used for cutting, preparing and (once cleaned) serving.
