Comment on Buying Guide – Norton Commando by 1969 Norton Commando 750 | Bike-urious https://silodrome.com/buying-guide-norton-commando/#comment-15368 Thu, 09 Aug 2018 13:05:57 +0000 http://silodrome.com/?p=22495#comment-15368 […] In this evolution of models, the two first years were the easiest to comprehend, with only two models sold by the British manufacturer. In 1969, the “S” model was released, essentially aiming for the American market. This S model came in addition to the 1968 original model, which was often called the Fastback. 1969 is considered to be one of the best years for Commandos thanks to mechanical improvements that solved some teething issues in 1968. 1969 was also a winning year for the Commando which, despite being not officially engaged in racing, was used for competitions like the Isle of Man TT where Paul Smart (yes, the same legend that’s usually associated with Ducati) finished 2nd. The parallel twin of 746cc developed 58hp and could push the 430lbs bike to approximately 115mph. Using the same engine base as the prior flagship model of Norton, the Atlas, the motor was not revolutionary but still performed well and helped the Commando earn the title of “Machine of the Year” by Motorcycle News from 1968 to 1972. Even the construction of the bike was kind of outdated being designated as “pre-unit”. This means that the transmission and the engine were built separately and then brought together. For more information about the Commandos, check out these stories on Motorcycle Classics and Silodrome. […]

Comment on Yamaha GTS 1000 by Index of 22 electric motorcycles for the STREET | ElectricMotorcycle.com | The Electric Revolution Starts Here https://silodrome.com/yamaha-gts-1000/#comment-15343 Sat, 07 Jul 2018 01:48:15 +0000 http://silodrome.com/?p=24461#comment-15343 […] Johammer is based in Austria, and the J1 is …innovative? It uses an obscure front suspension type that may have certain benefits, but…the most obvious feature is the bold style of the bodywork. I would like to suggest that it may be an updated tribute to the 1929 Majestic, but with an electric drivetrain…The unusual front suspension looks suspiciously like it was derived from the 1993 Yamaha GTS1000. Comment on Vincent Motorcycles Poster by Vincent 998cc 'Chinese Red' Touring Rapide - Revivaler https://silodrome.com/vincent-motorcycles-poster/#comment-15339 Tue, 10 Apr 2018 13:20:00 +0000 http://silodrome.com/?p=1813#comment-15339 […] The early Vincent HRD motorcycles were built with Vincent’s frame design but using the JAP engines that were also used by the likes of Brough Superior. Phil Vincent also fitted Rudge-Python engines in some machines but really wanted to create a Vincent engine unique to his motorcycles. The opportunity for this arrived from Australia in 1931 in the person of Phil Irving, who set about designing a new series of engines for the company. (Note: you can find a downloadable poster with all Vincent HRD motorcycles made on Silodrome if you click here). […]
