Modern off-road bikes are marvels of modern engineering, they have the power to weight ratio of yellow-cake uranium and motors that keep running no matter what you do to them. I am convinced that after the almost inevitable nuclear apocalypse only cockroaches and dirt-bikes will survive. And it’s touch and go on the cockroaches making it.

That said, there’s a lot to be said for vintage off-roaders, the noise, the dripping oil and the blue smoke all possess character of their own, add to that the Steve-McQueeniness of bikes like this Triumph and it becomes easy to want one as much as Libyans want democracy.

This particular Triumph is a 1961 TR5C, a relatively rare bike that the current owner Mike says runs well but needs a little TLC. He’s asking $3,200 USD for it and is based in Santa Ana, California. Hit him up here (mikedavis70 @ hotmail) if you’re interested.
