The 1000 Lakes Rally was an event held in Finland that was so difficult it became known at the “Grand Prix” of the world rally circuit – It was so difficult that it was only ever won by non-Scandinavians on 5 occasions, the course was hilly, wide and usually dirt or gravel.
Spectators would turn out in their hundreds of thousands for the event, Finland touts rally as one of its national sports so fan attendance was always amongst the highest on the world rally circuit. The full film runs just over 1 hour and is clearly a bit of a low-budget effort – that said it does include some wonderful footage of early-80s rally cars in action which is something you never want to miss.
