North By Northwest is one of my favourite films of all time. It has it all, Cary Grant, a pretty woman, baddies, trains, planes, cars and intrigue. It just doesn’t get any better than that.
The 1954 Jaguar XK120 M Roadster was the US specification version of the famous XK Jaguar model, the 3.4 SE engine was an inline 6 cylinder capable of producing 180hp at 5300RPM. This power plant was advanced for the day and same basic engine design remained in production for decades after it was originally introduced.
The 1982 Indianapolis 500 was unique for a number of reasons, it was the first year that ground-effect cars were to race around the infamous circuit, the 1st and 2nd place finishers were separated by just 0.16 seconds, which was the closest finish in Indy 500 history up until this point.
Michael Mundy, the proprietor of Steel Bent Customs, has a penchant for building some of the cleanest cafe racer motorcycles you’ll find anywhere. He tends to favour the Honda CB750 and has now got the process of turning the bike from a lumbering over-weight bike into an exceedingly clean, pure example of what a cafe racer can be if the builder sticks to the core of what the genre originally entailed.
