Brough Superior, the Rolls-Royce of motorcycles and vehicle of choice for both Lawrence of Arabia and George Bernard Shaw, is back building motorcycles. They’re producing faithful new builds of the SS100 Brough Superiors (pronounced: Bruff Superior) from 1927.
The 1,000cc OHV V-Twin is a J.A.P. engine (named after John Alfred Prestwich, the engine’s designer), they have been upgraded a little from the originals (very slightly) and are expected to sell for ~$195,000 USD a piece. Not exactly chump change but the bikes are expected to either maintain their value or appreciate over time, a 1925 Brough recently sold for $450,188 at auction. Interestingly, if you take the original price of the Brough and adjust it for inflation it’s about $430,000, meaning it maintained value almost perfectly over the 80+ years since it was built.
The “new” Brough Superiors are built by Mark Upman and are set to be produced in extremely limited numbers, I suggest you do what I did, buy a lottery ticket and cross your fingers.
